Welcome to ‘Kaur Therapy Services’

Nurturing the psychological wellbeing of all individuals

I am Ounkar Kaur

Having been involved in the field of mental health for 25 years, I qualified as a Humanistic/Person-Centred Counsellor in 2003 and Psychodynamic Psychotherapist in 2016. The therapeutic services I provide include counselling and psychotherapy for adults and adolescents which can be time-limited and/or open-ended. My primary focus is to support and nurture the psychological wellbeing of all, encouraging collaborative work between client and therapist, that is to say ‘we are in this together’.

My ‘first’ language (mother-tongue) is Punjabi. I was born in England and speak fluent English as well as Hindi and Urdu. Therapy can be conducted in any of the above languages and/or Bi-lingually for those seeking therapy in their native tongue.

Treatment approach

You may find yourself faced with a specific life event or relationship you would like to address, or a painful experience triggered from your past and need to talk about this in a safe and confidential space.

Perhaps you feel low or have lost your confidence and feel confused, anxious, without knowing quite why, or it maybe you want to understand yourself better.

Accessing therapy provides a space for developing self-awareness, building emotional resilience and self-healing. This can be an opportunity to explore how past experiences and traumas can still often impact on us in the ‘here and now’. Furthermore, it will help to gain deeper insights into how our external worlds can impact on our internal worlds through the therapeutic process.

 Psychodynamic

This therapy supports individuals gain insight into their lives and present-day concerns. The aim is to encourage a person to speak freely about their emotions, desires, and fears.

Humanistic/Person-Centred

This therapy aims to help an individual develop a stronger, healthier sense of self. This involves exploration of and understanding their feelings to help gain a sense of meaning in life.

Intercultural

This is a form of dynamic psychotherapy which recognises the importance of race: culture and ethnicity and acknowledges that there are intrinsic differences between individual human-beings.

I adopt a professional and courteous attitude towards my work, accompanied by a substantially developed skillset to fully support my client/ patients.
I abide by the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society’s code of ethics and good practice.

‘Changing Times and Evolving Cultures’

This project with some of its underlying themes have emerged from my MSc research which explored the gap in mainstream mental health services, particularly when working with clients from diverse backgrounds.  This research highlighted some of the inequalities and discrimination that can be subtly present in services.
